Frequently Asked Parent Questions

Frequently Asked Parent Questions

When should my newborn have their first pediatrician visit?

Your newborn should have their first visit with us 3-5 days after birth. This allows us to check their weight, feeding, and overall health.

What should I look for in a pediatrician for my newborn?

Look for a pediatrician who is experienced, patient, and a good listener. You want a doctor who you trust and feel comfortable asking questions.

What should I bring to my newborn's first appointment?

Please bring your newborn's hospital discharge papers, birth certificate or documentation, insurance card, immunization record from the hospital, and a list of any concerns or questions. We'll review feeding, sleeping, bowel movements, and development during this important first visit.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most major insurance plans including Florida Blue, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana, and Medicaid. Please call our office at (954) 799-4086 to verify your specific plan is accepted.

When should my newborn receive their first vaccinations?

Your newborn typically receives the Hepatitis B vaccine before leaving the hospital. The next round of vaccinations is at 2 months and includes DTaP, Hib, IPV, PCV13, and Rotavirus. We'll provide a complete vaccination schedule and answer all your questions during your first visit.

How do I know if my child needs to be seen for a fever?

Call us immediately if your child is under 3 months with any fever over 100.4°F. For older children, seek care if the fever persists beyond 3 days, exceeds 104°F, or is accompanied by severe symptoms like difficulty breathing, persistent vomiting, rash, or extreme lethargy.

Do you offer telehealth or virtual visits?

Yes, we offer telehealth appointments for non-emergency concerns such as follow-up visits, minor illnesses, behavioral questions, medication management, and general parenting advice. Call our office to schedule a convenient virtual visit.

Do you offer lactation support and breastfeeding help?

Yes, we provide comprehensive lactation support and breastfeeding guidance. We can address common concerns like latch issues, low milk supply, nipple pain, and proper positioning. We also support formula-feeding families and combination feeding approaches.

How often will I bring my newborn in for check-ups?

Your newborn will have frequent visits in the first year: at 3-5 days after birth, then at 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, and 12 months. These visits monitor weight gain, growth, development milestones, and ensure your baby receives timely vaccinations.

What is your cancellation policy?

We kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows us to offer the time slot to another family in need. Repeated no-shows may affect your ability to schedule future appointments.

How can I reach the doctor after hours?

For after-hours medical concerns, call our main office number at (954) 799-4086 and you'll be connected with our answering service who will page our on-call pediatrician. For life-threatening emergencies, always call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

What should I bring to my child's first appointment?

Please bring your child's insurance card, any previous medical records, immunization history, a list of current medications, and a photo ID. If your child is a newborn, bring hospital discharge papers and birth records as well.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment by calling our office. We offer both in-person and telehealth appointments.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept most major insurance plans including Medicaid. Please contact our office to verify if we accept your specific insurance plan.

What should I bring to my child's first appointment?

Please bring your child's insurance card, immunization records, medical history, list of current medications, and any relevant medical records from previous providers. Arriving 15 minutes early helps us complete necessary paperwork.
