Frequently Asked Parent Questions

Frequently Asked Parent Questions

What temperature is considered a fever in an infant?

A rectal temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher is considered a fever in infants. For babies under 3 months old, any fever requires an immediate call to our office.

Why are infant fevers more serious than fevers in older children?

Infants, especially those under 3 months, have developing immune systems and can become seriously ill quickly. A fever in a young infant may indicate a serious infection that requires immediate medical evaluation.

What should I bring to my child's first appointment?

Please bring your child's insurance card, any previous medical records, immunization history, a list of current medications, and a photo ID. If your child is a newborn, bring hospital discharge papers and birth records as well.

Do you accept my insurance?

We accept most major insurance plans including Florida Blue, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, Humana, and Medicaid. Please call our office at (954) 799-4086 to verify your specific plan is accepted.

What vaccinations do you provide?

We provide all CDC-recommended childhood vaccinations including MMR, DTaP, polio, hepatitis, HPV, meningococcal, flu shots, and COVID-19 vaccines. We follow the recommended immunization schedule to keep your child protected and healthy.

When should I bring my child in for a high fever?

Bring your child in immediately if they're under 3 months with a fever over 100.4°F. For older children, call if the fever exceeds 104°F, lasts more than 3 days, or is accompanied by severe symptoms like difficulty breathing, persistent vomiting, severe headache, stiff neck, rash, or extreme lethargy.

Do you offer telehealth or virtual visits?

Yes, we offer telehealth appointments for non-emergency concerns such as follow-up visits, minor illnesses, behavioral questions, medication management, and general parenting advice. Call our office to schedule a convenient virtual visit.

What is your sick visit policy?

We reserve same-day appointments for sick children every day. Please call our office as early as possible in the morning to secure a same-day slot. For urgent concerns after hours, we have an on-call physician available 24/7.

How often should my child have well-child check-ups?

Well-child visits are recommended frequently in the first 2 years: at 3-5 days, 1 month, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 months. After age 2, annual check-ups are recommended to monitor growth, development, and ensure vaccinations stay current.

What is your cancellation policy?

We kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. This allows us to offer the time slot to another family in need. Repeated no-shows may affect your ability to schedule future appointments.

How can I reach the doctor after hours?

For after-hours medical concerns, call our main office number at (954) 799-4086 and you'll be connected with our answering service who will page our on-call pediatrician. For life-threatening emergencies, always call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
